14 Aug Platform rules 101 for creators

With the plethora of platforms we use as creators, we encounter many different sets of rules. Models and members alike are expected to follow these rules for the safety and protection of both the individual and the platform. Each with its own set, the prohibited behaviour can change from one place to the next, as with almost any other business. Many of the bullet points they list are obvious in why they are against the rules, others not so much. There are also many different levels of punishment for breaking said rules for both models and members! The point is that knowing what can and can’t be done on any given platform is very important for many reasons. Making sure to familiarize yourself with the terms of service and the posted rules is something you do not want to overlook when starting on a new platform (or checking periodically to see what has changed!), as it ensures the safety of you and the platform itself.
At first glance, some of these rules may seem silly. For example, many cam sites do not allow sleeping when streaming. You may think falling asleep while streaming is “cute” or will somehow boost the viewers and activity in your room, but this is one of those things that can turn sour fast. There are a few reasons why this generally isn’t allowed, mostly to do with consent. I have seen people offering “sleepovers” as a service they provide, which includes staying live on cam through the night (amongst other things, I am sure), but know that these types of shows are generally not allowed on most, if not all, of the platforms we use. Another one that I find a little funny myself (but I understand why) is toy size restrictions: you can not insert a toy or object larger than a soda can (this is the size comparison I have seen most often), or similarly, you can not “fist” amongst other restrictions. Now for me, my hands are smaller than a soda can, and I am a seasoned veteran regarding size and insertions. But understanding the reasoning behind this rule is what matters here.

The platforms are protecting themselves and their models. Someone attempting a large insertion for the first time live on cam can be very dangerous at that level. These rules protect you from seriously injuring yourself while streaming live, which protects the platform from allowing such gore to be broadcast. This is the nutshell version of the explanation, but I think you all know exactly what I mean. I have also seen rules across assorted platforms that prohibit stuffed animals or similar items in the background of your stream, no pets allowed on camera and so on. Although these might be the head-scratchers of the bunch, rules like these are in place to keep prohibited content/behaviour and generally “icky” things from developing. Keeping in mind that there is indeed a reason for each rule out in place (and more than likely put there by the legal department to protect the platform), abiding by these rules that might seem a little silly will help ensure you do not get yourself caught up in a bad situation while streaming live.
Many rules exist for obvious reasons but differ from platform to platform. If you are ever questioning if something is allowed or isn’t and you can’t find it in the rules, reaching out to the support staff first is always a better call than getting a warning for breaking the rules. With all of the platforms that I know of and have worked on, if your account is disabled for breaking their TOS/Rules, then that’s it. There are no second chances. Talking about other platforms often is a rule that many people miss. Similar to not giving out personal information (phone number, etc. – why you would do this anyway is beyond me), some are more lenient with the smaller things like this, but always check and make sure. Another notable rule that every cam site I have seen/used has is that you do indeed need to show your face. I am often asked how people can become creators without revealing their faces, and the truth is, you absolutely can, but you won’t be able to do any live streaming. The reason for this particular rule is that the site wants to make sure that the person who is appearing on camera is indeed the person who holds the account, that the person knows they are being broadcast live and also to make sure the stream is not a pre-recorded video being played off as a live stream. These are all very valid reasons. Accounts that violate this rule typically are issued a warning with an explanation, but repeat offenders are not made exceptions, and you will lose your account.
I could go on and on about the assorted rules and why they are in place, but the moral of the story is making sure that you not only are aware of but follow said rules is an essential part of being in this community. We aren’t told we can’t have stuffed animals in the shot because the platform hates cute fuzzy things. There is an actual reason. It is also essential to remember that if you see another model breaking a rule, do NOT assume it is ok to follow in their footsteps. You don’t want to willingly walk into a doomed ship knowing the outcome won’t be in your favour. If you are desperate to use that new giant BadDragon dildo, but the platform doesn’t allow it, other speciality platforms will! It just takes a little searching sometimes.
Similarly, when it comes to members, they have their own set of rules, typically speaking. Knowing what those rules are can be very beneficial to you as a creator, as it will help keep you and your members safe, but that is a story for another day. Today, drink more water!
