Importance of sleep

Sleep. We all need it! I know it is ever so tempting to stay up extra late on cam or finish the final piece of that goal, answer those messages, and what have you. The tough reality of this, though, is that if you don’t get a good night’s sleep, you will have a much tougher time conquering the day tomorrow. Some of us are night owls, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give your body and mind the chance to reset properly when you do, in fact, get to sleep. We all know what happens when we sacrifice our shut-eye for the sake of FOMO. Your mind gets foggy, your eyes hurt, and your body feels sluggish and weak. This might not hit you right away, depending on your habits and, honestly, age, but this is indeed something that will catch up with you. Lack of sleep can result in your immune system not functioning properly, weight gain, and an overall health decline. Getting the correct amount of sleep is so important for your mind, body, and soul to function harmoniously together. Give yourself the gift of a good night’s sleep, put the phone down, turn the screens off, slip into the dream world your body craves and give yourself a fighting chance! It is not worth that extra screen time when you are sacrificing your health and heading towards eventual burnout while running on caffeine and determination alone.

"LACK OF SLEEP CAN RESULT IN YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, WEIGHT GAIN, AND OVERALL HEALTH DECLINE. GETTING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF SLEEP IS SO IMPORTANT FOR YOUR MIND, BODY, AND SOUL TO FUNCTION HARMONIOUSLY TOGETHER."

When you are a streamer, it often happens that you find yourself signing on late at night for one reason or another. This is a normal occurrence in the cam world, both NSFW and otherwise. We all know the fun, excitement, and downright glory that can happen after dark, but once you finish that stream and give yourself a chance to wind down, most of your night has passed you by. That being said, doing this in moderation can still allow you to maintain a healthy amount of sleep unless, of course, you have developed a 3rd shift sleep schedule, in which case, I do not envy you, but whatever works for you! Giving yourself the chance to get a good amount of real sleep and not trying to power through the next day by blowing through energy drinks will be much better for not only your health but also your streaming career for the long haul. Nothing burns you out from streaming faster than lack of sleep, especially if you are prone to doing those late-night streams (I get it, so many people are around during those hours and all of that), But becoming a zombie for the sake of the goal every night will only result in more detrimental factors. You will have more success over the long haul if you are giving yourself the appropriate amount of breaks and rest in between. Sacrificing your own health will always eventually result in a decline in the success rate of your streams. I know this may sound silly, but I have seen it happen time and time again with both NSFW and SFW streamers. Do not take caffeine for granted, and do not push yourself beyond your limits just to finish that level or for the possibility that a big tipper MIGHT enter the room. Take care of yourself first, and your success will follow suit.

Not getting enough sleep can greatly affect your mental health. It starts with a case of the grouches, we all get that right? Maybe a nap during the day will fix that. Waking up wondering what day it even is, possibly more tired than you were before lying down. This results many times in being wired at night, not being able to fall asleep when you try, and lying there staring at your phone while the minutes tick away. What happens next? You get up the next day, still grouchy, still short on sleep. The need to have that afternoon nap lingers until you give in. At this point, it is very easy to sink into the cycle of endless wired nights and unsatisfying naps. With this, everyone is, of course, different. But for many, this is the start of a journey that brings us down a road much darker than we would like. You begin to feel sad, groggy, and lethargic. That depressing cloud hanging over you as you creep through the day, just waiting for the next chance to lay down. This cycle becomes increasingly more difficult to break the longer you let it go on. This can also very much enhance any existing mental health issues you may be experiencing. Breaking this cycle before it becomes an issue will benefit you very much in the long run. Everyone is different, but generally speaking, when I find myself falling into this pattern, I try to do a workout instead of a nap to get the blood pumping. This wakes me up enough to allow me to get through the rest of the day, and by the time my cat is herding me up to the bed, I am more than ready for a good night’s sleep. Not staring at my phone for really any given amount of time right before bed is also something that will help you slip into a dream world successfully. You do not need to see which celebrities are fighting, who ate what for dinner, or (as much as I love adorable animals) other people’s pets wearing people’s clothes. It can wait! This process is harder for some than others; we are all different. Find what works for you, but maintain the common goal of getting those much-needed rest hours in!
