As I mentioned in a previous blog post, harnessing data on what content is popular and using it to inform what you create is a useful strategy to increase your visibility in site searches. It is a strategy that content creators of all kinds use, and is not limited to those in the adult industry. This long-standing practice can be contentious at times; let’s explore how pop culture can deeply infiltrate people’s porn consumption, how you can integrate it into your own content, and what to be mindful of when drawing on popular topics for inspiration.

The annual PornHub report provides a comprehensive summary of all the data collected from site users. This includes the top content searched for on the site. Pop culture is always featured in popular and growing content on the site, and the data from 2024 was no different from previous years. The top searches related to pop culture stemmed from social media trends, political commentary, and sporting events.
The top trends nodding at pop culture included demure desires and traditional wife content. Most people are aware of the “very demure, very mindful” TikTok, with the original video collecting over 50 million views and related content spiking within the trending space. This overflowed into the audience’s pornography interests with searches for modesty, mindfulness, and simplicity content rising well over 100%. Traditional wife content also spiked in popularity, attributed to an extension of modesty content, but also influenced by the release of the television show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. While the wife category is always popular in adult content, the move towards “(very)good wives go wild” content reflects this entrance in mainstream media.
2024 was also the year of the Olympic Games in Paris, and all related terms featured highly in searched content. This included searches for “athlete”, specific sports, and “France” and French language content.
Workplace and workplace content were also surprisingly popular. Commentators suggest that this is due to a shift back into shared office spaces after the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which work-from-home arrangements were widely implemented across white-collar workplaces. This meant coworker crushes had the potential to develop, and the office space became a novel environment after a long period of social distancing.

As you can see, pop culture enters the adult content space in some very surprising ways. Things that are front and centre to our interest at the time have the potential to be sexualised and become highly sought after pieces of media. You can also see the way that extensions of the pop culture events and talking points are interesting to people. For example, with the Olympics, it was not just specific Olympic level content that audiences were interested in viewing, but all the things associated, including the country in which it was held.
I have talked in previous pieces about how you can incorporate popular content or trending niches into your established content strategy. Similar recommendations apply to drawing on popular content to inspire your own content creation. Stretch your current niches to incorporate elements of pop culture without overextending into territory your current audience may not be invested in. Think creatively about what elements of popular culture or trending topics you can focus on and develop more in your own content. Thinking outside the box will not only get your content seen in the top searches, but it will also help it to stand out from others who may be employing the same strategies.

WHAT TO BE MINDFUL OF WHEN DRAWING ON POP CULTURE

There are some things to be mindful of when drawing on pop culture to inspire your content creation. These include all the points I have made in previous posts about deviating from your established niches, but for this topic, there are some other specific areas to be aware of.
Although it may be tempting to incorporate controversial pop culture figures and topics, you need to approach these with care. You could be accused of “rage baiting” or producing content simply to gain attention, regardless of if this is positive or negative. Being controversial and edgy may help you gain some ground in your business in the short term, but consider how this content may age; how will you feel about this in 6 months’ time, or a few years, when the trends will inevitably shift again?
Keep your target audience in mind also; is this going to appeal to them, or are you going to turn away your loyal fans for a few extra clicks? Although I think authenticity and pushing the boundaries are great attributes, you need to carefully weigh this against your current content strategy and if it is appropriate for your brand.
By continually monitoring trending topics and content across all online platforms (not just your adult sites), you can find additional inspiration for your content and push the boundaries of your creativity, whilst maintaining your fan base and gaining new audience members.
