Tips For Succeeding As A Solo Content Creator

I previously wrote about the pros and cons of being a solo content creator. While collaborating with other models can be lucrative, there is no shortage of demand for solo content. There is an art to developing yourself as a solo content creator, since you are appealing to a specific audience. In this piece, I will share my top three tips that are specific to succeeding as someone who is the sole star on the screen.

FOCUS ON NICHES AND AUDIENCE TYPES

When you are a solo content creator, I think there are three major pillars you need to focus on in order to be successful. These pillars form the basis of your business, and it is important to keep them rock-solid through ongoing review and maintenance. Although these pillars work together and overlap in some ways, you also need to be mindful of how they stand on their own.

The first of these pillars is identifying and focusing on your niches and the types of audiences they attract. This is key to developing your personal brand (which I will talk about shortly) and for positioning yourself as an expert in the niches you choose to focus on. As I said in my previous piece, there are specific niches that suit solo creators, and you should base your content creation on these niches. These niches are less about simply gyrating and having a good time on screen, and are more about creating a specific experience and fantasy for your audience. As such, this means developing skills in these niches, understanding how they appeal to the viewer, and the technical skills needed to capture them to perfection.

Focusing on specific niches also means keeping in mind the type of audience that enjoys these niches and ensuring that, while you are creating, they are at the forefront of the process. By doing this, you are making sure not only that the content caters to what they enjoy and how they like to view it, but also the peripheral items that these audiences may like to purchase. For example, custom content, merchandise, and Wishlist items.

DEVELOP A STRONG PERSONAL BRAND

For solo content creators, the personal brand is everything. From your stage name to your image, to the content you create, everything has to be coherent so that when audiences or potential audiences hear your name, they very quickly know what to expect and that their investment in what you are creating will deliver what they are looking for. As I said above, this includes niches and the unique way you approach them, as well as all the other elements people encounter when they look at your accounts and online stores.

Developing a strong personal brand takes time, as each post and piece of content contributes to this overall picture. The time this takes also includes the space to make changes, adding and removing elements that strengthen your overall presence. Therefore, don’t think you’ll get it absolutely right on day 1 (or even at the 1-year mark!), as developing a strong personal brand is a dynamic process.

INTIMACY AND CONNECTION WITH YOUR FANBASE

Finally, solo content creation is all about the connection you build with your fanbase and the intimacy that develops from it. I have found that audiences who enjoy solo content creators do so because of the connection that comes through each piece of content, post, and direct message. It is about speaking directly and personally to your fanbase, so that they feel valued and seen by you. People will pay well for these kinds of experiences, regardless of the niche or tone of your stage persona. In the end, your client base wants to be entertained, and the fantasy you create that focuses on intimacy and connection will have long-term benefits for you as a solo creator.
