Act Like A Creator, Think Like A Fan

As a creator, advice often revolves around analyzing data collected via your adult content pages and promotional social media, but there are a lot more ways to get to know your audience. Analyzing the data you collect is no doubt a smart thing to do, but if you can understand your fans on a deeper level, you can unlock even further potential for earnings.

POP GOES THE CULTURE

To start off simply, a lot of the most commonly shared interests in modern society fall under pop culture. While people are diverse, we often all share a lot of the same experiences when it comes to trends, especially on the internet. Pop culture can refer to movies, television, music, gaming, books, etc. Even if you don’t like superheroes, most internet-dwellers would think you live under a rock if you couldn’t name at least a few. How is this useful? Say you posted Halloween pics last October and got great feedback, drawing in new fans, despite not actually knowing much about that sexy Scarlet Witch outfit you picked out. That would be a great time to research more about superhero culture as a means of connecting with your fans, and a new audience. Maybe there’s another character you’d enjoy cosplaying if you learned more about how your fans engage with pop culture, possibly finding a new niche to dabble in.

I AM GROUPIE: FINDING GROUPS

You can apply pop culture research to any medium, so don’t forget about things like music, literature, and games. Of course, you can always go deeper. Many special interests inspire groups to form organically. You can find these groups on pretty much any social media platform, but apps like Reddit, Discord, and Facebook, in particular, heavily rely on groups. Joining subreddits, servers, and pages for topics that interest you is another way to learn more about your fans. While all information is valuable, and this kind of socialization-based research can even be fun, amongst the most vital information is where and how potential fans spend money, and what they spend it on. Maybe the gaming server reveals that a certain videogame encourages high-spending habits, and maybe integrating themes from that game into your brand could lead to more sales in your future.

It’s also worth noting pop culture isn’t the only thing that naturally inspires the formation of online groups. Another potentially lucrative space could be in hobby groups, which often rely on spending money. In all likelihood, you already have a hobby you enjoy, so dabbling with groups that appeal to you can be a good way to figure out how to carve out your own special space in a fandom or hobbyist group organically.

SEX SELLS. DUH

Adult creators are as much a part of the creator economy as any other creator, and we’re not the only ones using sex as a primary selling point. Take a critical look at the music industry, or the videogame or anime industry, and you’ll see recurring themes of sexuality. Marketers have long known the fact that sex sells, whether consumers admit it or not. Once you figure out what your fans like, it’s not unlikely that by following the breadcrumbs, you can find an actress, character, or theme that draws in fans. This applies much less to hobbies, but when it comes to general interests, if you partake in them enough, like a fan, you’ll come to the crux of something that you can adapt to your own brand, giving potential fans a reason to place you adjacent to something they already love.

Maybe you accidentally attracted fans with a cosplay, but think about how far you could go if you truly understood your fans. It’s also worth mentioning that consuming adult content is helpful for inspiration, but even putting the notepad down and actually enjoying the content is another way to shift from simply acting like a creator, to thinking like a fan, giving you a deeper glimpse into the creator-fan dynamic.
