08 Sep Harnessing The Power of Data: Popular Content

in Tips 'n' Tricks
Trending, popular, and top content categories are a veritable goldmine for adult content creators wanting to be seen by large and profitable audiences. Following on from my previous pieces on how to harness the power of data, this blog will talk about where to find information on trending content, how to incorporate it into your current content strategy, and a gentle warning about the lure of following trends.
WHERE TO FIND POPULAR CONTENT DATA
Finding popular and trending content will differ from site to site. Most will have the dynamic data on their home pages or landing pages under headings such as “popular now” or “top categories.” These are to be taken as point-in-time data, so they can fluctuate depending on how often the site refreshes this particular data set. If you want to use this data, it is a good idea to watch it for an extended period of time; although this means that what categories appeal to your own content strategy may change, you will be able to see what is staying relatively stable. You will want to go for something that is relatively stable and not a category that pops into popular content based on one-of-a-kind factors, such as a single person purchasing a ton of obscure content or a single person binge-watching the same kind of categories.
Social media sites, particularly TikTok, provide detailed trending or popular content data to inspire their creators to continue to upload consistently. This data will show if the category is increasing in popularity or if it has already reached its peak. Like I have talked about in previous blog posts, although mainstream social media is very hostile to adult content creators, it can be really useful for us to use in order to gauge what audiences are currently interested in and pivot our own content to suit.
Adult sites such as PornHub and Clips4Sale release detailed reports outlining popular content, including where it is popular and who is viewing it. Combining this with your own personal data regarding who is consuming your content can help to leverage popular content categories.
HOW TO INCORPORATE POPULAR CONTENT INTO YOUR CURRENT NICHES
When following a popular content trend, the important thing to do is to incorporate it into the niches you currently cater to. If you do a full switch into a trending category, you are at risk of alienating your current audience or appearing to just be a trend chaser. For longevity and sustainability in your content creation, be true to your core niches and integrate the popular content or trending topics into your work. For example, if one of your niches is big butts, and medical fetish is trending, think about how you can combine these two together. It is a great opportunity to be creative in the type of content you produce, whilst staying loyal to your current fanbase and creating content they will continue to enjoy.
If you decide to incorporate popular content into your current niches, remember that the same rules about critical mass apply. Making only one or two clips is not going to be enough to cut through and be seen by the audiences interested in the popular content. As with other content niches, you need to be hitting around 10 clips of the same type to be seen. Creating a low number of clips within the category will not provide bang for buck and may only demotivate you when they do not attract attention or sales.
A GENTLE WARNING ABOUT POPULAR CONTENT
A little earlier in this piece, I mentioned being perceived as a trend chaser. This is your gentle warning about the pitfalls of leveraging popular content. It can be tempting to chase trends and the income that they offer. However, as a content creator, you want to build sustainability into your content strategy. Trends will come and go, but the goal is to develop and keep a solid fanbase. Fanbases are built around dependable niches that will not shift on a flimsy whim, nor on whimsical trends that are dominating online spaces. Approach popular content with care and integrate these changing tides into your overall content strategy in a creative manner, and you will have a recipe for success.
